Will there be any stars in your crown? This is actually a good question that should preoccupy our minds every wakeful hour. Those who just want to make it to Heaven will not enjoy it enough should they get there. Paul tells us to "run in such a way as to get the prize" in 1 Corinthians 9:24. The christian life is likened to a journey, a fight and a race. A journey must have a predetermined destination. In any war or race, there must be winners and losers; victors and the vanquished. The crown of life that we all seek is given on merit; it is given to the overcomers, otherwise it would have no meaning at all.
There is this beautiful hymn " Will There Be Any Stars" written in the 1890 by E. E. Herwit who poses the question we are dealing with here. James 1:12 says Blessed is the man that endure temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him (NKJV). In order to get this crown of life, we must overcome temptation. In order to win the prize that Paul talks of in 1 Corinthians, we must run and win the race.
But the question remains, "Will there be any stars in your crown?". You may have the crown, granted, but what about the stars? In Philippians 4:1, Paul calls the Philippians his "Joy" and "Crown". In 1 Thessalonians 2:19 we find the same words. Paul refers to those whom he has brought to the Lord as his joy, his crown. The question is; have you brought anybody to the Lord Jesus? What is preventing you? It is not enough to strive to enter heaven, we must strive not to go there alone. The good news of salvation must be shared. The souls you help save may turn out to be the stars in your crown.
