IS THE WORLD SOON COMING TO AN END?

There have been few times in Earth's history when the happenings around the world have been as dreadful, fear-inspiring and just downright petrifying as they are today. Floods in South Africa; war in Ukraine; a global pandemic; drought and famine in the Horn of Africa region; at least 27 active conflicts around the world, not to mention the ever worsening climate situation. We are living in perilous times. Governments all over the world are struggling with ever rising inflation. The cost of living is ballooning and crime rates soaring. Violence is beyond commonplace. Just a few days ago a gunman shot and killed at least ten people in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York. What is the world coming to? As baffling as it may seem, these events were predicted more than two thousands years ago. The only surprising thing is that we should be surprised at all. At the onset of the global covid-19 pandemic in march 2020, I wrote on Facebook a statement that has turned out to be eerily propheti...

CAN PROSPERITY GOSPEL STAND UP TO SCRUTINY?

Proponents of prosperity gospel and Word of Faith Movement believe that it is always the will of God that believers are of good health, abundant wealth and happiness. They point to the Abrahamic promises, and quote certain scriptures to support this view. Other Christians, however, are of a different opinion. While accepting and praying for God's blessings, they assert that a life of abundance is nowhere promised in scripture. The only question is: which of these views align with the Bible? Is prosperity promised by God for all Christians? This article will attempt to answer these questions and perhaps shed some light on this important topic. While the scriptures do not explicitly declare it morally wrong to be wealthy, healthy or prosperous, there is no evidence from the scriptures that a life of abundant wealth, health and happiness is guaranteed for Christians. Whereas it is true that the Abrahamic promises are fulfilled in Christ, Jesus himself declared, "My Kingdom is not...

HOW SUNDAY BECAME THE DAY OF WORSHIP FOR CHRISTIANS

It is clear from the Bible that the Jews of Jesus's time kept the Sabbath on a day we now commonly call Saturday. There is no doubt that Jesus and all the Apostles kept the seventh day Sabbath as well. We find numerous evidences of this throughout the New Testament. Most Christians today, however, worship and refrain from doing any work on Sundays claiming it to be "The Lord's Day". But how did Sunday become the Lord's day? This articles traces the history and theology behind the change of the day of rest for Christians worldwide from Saturday to Sunday. The history of how Sunday became "the sabbath" for millions of Christians is long but it can be summarized in this way: After the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, the influx of the gentiles into the Jewish assemblies led the Jews to add an 18th benediction that put a curse on Christians ( Initially, there were 17 benedictions). It is important to remember that the early Christians used to meet i...

SET YOUR AFFECTION ON HEAVEN

Colossians 3:2-17 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.(KJV) Luke 10:20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven" (KJV). "|When we make self fulfillment our goal in life, it will be impossible to worship God and give him all the glory.’’   In our lives nowadays there are so many things that easily distract us. We want wealth, nice cars, nice clothes, big houses, a good life and prosperity. We want to know what’s hot in the entertainment world, the newest movies, the latest music, and the most current fashion. We want to keep abreast with the news, the gossip of the town and sports, to the extent that we forget the real reason why we are here. We worry about life and livelihood so much that we forget...

SUNDAY OR THE SABBATH DAY?

It is clear from the Bible that Jesus and all the Apostles kept the seventh day Sabbath on a day we commonly refer to as "Saturday" while many Christians of today do not. Some observe Sunday as the sabbath day while others say that observance of the day is unnecessary. In this article we'll investigate some arguments in support of observing the Sabbath day rest on Saturday. So why, if at all, should Christians observe the original Sabbath? The Sabbath was in God’s original plan  – The sabbath day was in God's plan from creation. The sabbath was instituted before the fall of man. Genesis 2:2 says “ And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.” This portion shows us why the sabbath was instituted, and it is because God rested on ...
